Kenny G currently owns the smooth-jazz soprano sax with his popular, mainstream arrangements and compositions. And on his first holiday album, despite occasionally predictable charts and phrasing, the saxman delivers a thoughtful and moving collection of songs, spirituals, and hymns, with his trademark sound wedded to several ensemble and orchestral arrangements. The G-man stretches out in \"Sleigh Ride\" and \"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,\" but these are balanced by more serious pieces such as the lovely, original \"Eternal Light ( A Chanukah Song)\" and \"Ave Maria.\" There\'s a genuine humbleness and inspired reverence in the playing here--as in, Kenny G really means it, man. After a ghost track, \"The Christmas Song,\" the record closes with a haunting audio history of America\'s last century, which runs under a revisited version of \"Auld Lang Syne.\" Summing up a turbulent and triumphant 100 years, this one is sure to put a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye. ~ Martin Keller
Kenny G continues the legends of holiday music with his smooth jazz soprano sax. \"Faith\" records some of the most popular tunes balanced with the more serious hymns. G really does go far and playful in \"Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!\" and \"Santa Claus is Coming To Town\". Tunes like \"Sleigh Ride\", \"I\'ll be Home for Christmas\" are just must-haves for the holiday season.
My personal pick includes \"The Christmas Song\", which under G\'s magical arrangements, distinguishes itself from all other Christmas songs. Beautiful and romantic tune! The biggest surprise is \"Auld Lang Syne: The Millenium Mix\". In fact, this is why I bought the CD for! The arrangements spice up the traditional piece that will bring us \"lump in the throat and tear in the eye\" according to review. This is by far the climax for the entire album, a sentimental note that will touch the hearts of many. Highly recommended. ~ Matthew M. Yau
This Christmas Eve, after you\'ve cooked that really great family dinner, have placed all the packages under the tree, taken time to say Happy Birthday to Jesus, put this on your CD player, have some egg nog, and relax in this delightful Kenny G album. You\'ve heard the songs before, and Kenny himself says he didn\'t want to misinterpret or overdo them. So relax, enjoy the music and by the time you get to the Auld Lange Syne millennium mix, be prepared to smile and cry in memories of the things that have gone on through our history.
A wonderful addition to your CD library. ~ Michael Butts
